The Biba brand was launched in 1964 by Barbara Hulanicki and her husband Stephen Fitz-Simon as a mail order clothing company, catering to the tastes of the fashionable and young. Biba was truly a revolution for the fashion industry and laid the ground work for modern fashion retailing. It paved the way for the likes of Topshop, which has arguably become more than just a clothing brand, gaining an almost cult status amongst the fashion conscious youth of today.
Although Hulanicki is not involved with this rebirth of the brand, the previewed designs are highly reminiscent of the original Biba look, glamorous, floor sweeping frock coats and satin maxi dresses in deep, moody colours really draw on Biba’s heritage.
The brand is set to launch in House of Fraser on the 9th September 2010 in 35 HoF stores throughout the country. There will also be a dedicated website Mybiba.com which will go live in September also. Prices are set to range from between £75 for blouses to £390 for coats. The new brand is described as “aspirational but accessible” by Stephanie Chen, Director of Womenswear and Accessories. House of Fraser have signed Daisy Lowe to be the new face of Biba for the first season.
So get the 9th September into your diaries ladies, as we have no doubt that this new range is going to be one of the high street highlights of AW10!
